    [Brussels, 27 April 2012] The EWL is pleased to see the EU and the Council of Europe launch a new programme designed to tackle the fact that ‘sport media coverage does not reflect social and cultural diversity and does not ensure equity for all.’ As the EWL noted in its 2010 report Beijing to Brussels: An Unfinished Journey, women athletes only secure between 2 and 9% of television airtime devoted to sports.     Ireland: Campaign to end prostitution succeeds in putting criminalisation on the political agenda

    [Brussels, 26 April 2012] The Irish Minister for Justice and Equality Alan Shatter outlined on 18 April a one year timeline to review the ’outdated’ law on prostitution. A public consultation will be launched before the end of May, and a possible bill sent to the Parliament by the end of the year.     MEPs call on Commission to introduce more effective sanctions to reduce gender pay gap

    [Brussels, 24 April 2012] A Europe-wide strategy is still necessary to tackle gender pay gap, says a resolution adopted unanimously by the European Parliament Committee on Women’s Rights on Tuesday 24 April.     [Brussels, 12 April 2012] In the end of March 2012, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) presented its work on ’gender-based violence’ to a network of stakeholders working on statistics. European Women’s Lobby was invited to take part, together with a few other NGOs.
